Court Reports

HOW WE CAN HELP YOU

If you’ve been charged with an offence like domestic violence, sexual offences, property crime, or drug and alcohol offences, or if you expect to appear before a tribunal, magistrate, or district
court, a pre-sentence court report could help.
A pre-sentence court report is a neutral psychological review that supports the court in deciding fair sentences. These reports are usually prepared at one of three times: if there’s a chance you might be charged, after formal charges, or in the lead-up to sentencing. The main goal is to look at the factors that might explain or reduce your responsibility for the offence.

Whats In a Pre-sentence Report

A psychologist conducts a clinical interview and may use psychometric tests, which check for
mental ability and behaviour patterns. The process explores the background of your case,
considers whether you’re likely to re-offend, and looks at whether treatment could help. The
psychologist then gives practical suggestions for your ongoing care, specialist help, or treatment
options.

Artemis Psychology offers pre-sentence, family, and capacity court reports for clients dealing
with criminal charges in Australian magistrate and district courts.
Benefits of a pre-sentence report
– Clearer understanding – allows the courts to make further informed decisions based on a
broader understanding of your situation.
– Mitigating factors – The Criminal Justice System in Australia takes the view that
rehabilitation takes precedence in reducing the chances of re-offending.
– Moving forward – Artemis are able to provide a range of treatment options to assist you.

Price Guide

Our fees depend on how complex your case is. Most reports and assessments cost between
$1,000 and $2,500. We ask for a 50 percent deposit upfront.

How the process works

If you decide to get a court report, you or your lawyer can book a 90-minute interview with our
team. We can also arrange visits to correctional centres or set up video appointments.
After your interview, we’ll prepare your report and send it to your lawyer, usually within two to four weeks. If you need your report urgently, we can arrange that for an extra $300 for each hour. If ongoing support is needed, Artemis Psychology will keep working with you. Our goal is to guide you through each step and support your return to a better life.
